MAR TROPICAL DE GRAU
It harbors ecosystems of great biological importance due to the wide variety of habitats and species present. The transition zone is defined as the area between 4.5° and 6° S, based on Hooker et al. (2013), and the northern limit of the transition zone is 4.5° S, as identified by Ibáñez et al. (2018) and as the southern limit of the Panamica province. The ecosystems of the RNMTG can be considered unique because they represent the southern limit of the distribution of the Eastern Tropical Pacific, both in shallow and deep-water biological communities. The ecosystem associated with the Tropical Temperate Transition Zone, between the tropical waters of the South Equatorial Current and the temperate waters of the Peru (Humboldt) Current, occurs only in Peru. This peculiarity has led to the recording of a significant number of endemic invertebrate species, known only from the coasts of Piura and Tumbes.
